ARE BLOGGERS JOURNALISTS? GREAT QUESTION. IT DEPENDS ON HOW YOU LIKE YOUR NEWS. Inverted pyramid with a slew of sources or afirst-person narrativeUpdated-by-the-minute or an after-the-fact-analysis? Blog posts usually fall into the latter categories — first-person narratives with a focus on analysis. Like this. Some might say bloggers have become the new “fourth estate” by taking up the slack for a falteringmedia, or even calling out traditional journalists for failing to do their job well. Sure, blogging is often more haphazard and less polished thantraditional media, but just about ANY blogger can be published — making the humongous-and-growing blogosphere one of the most democratic forms of journalism ever to exist. (But yes, we know: Veracity can vary. That’s why we recommend using this handy list of tips to evaluate a source’s credibility.)

Does Medicare Cover the Shingles Vaccine?
MEDICARE-PA-NJ-DE
Yes, the shingles vaccine is covered by Medicare but your physician cannot bill Medicare for the vaccine. Unlike some other vaccines that are covered under Part B Medicare, the shingles vaccine is covered by Part D, the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. You purchase Part D as a private stand alone prescription plan if you have Original Medicare, sometimes referred to as Traditional Medicare. The other option is a Medicare Advantage Plan; some of these plans include a prescription drug benefit known as MA-PD (Medicare Advantage with Prescription Drug) … Here is the link to the full article from the NorthJersey.com. A 61-year-old Riverside County man who allegedly possessed more than 2,600 child porn images was arrested Monday, authorities said. Officials said the arrest resulted from a yearlong investigation by a sexual-predator task force of county law enforcement authorities called Spider.
HoneyBaked Ham: No tolerance For Sexual Harassment
CBS Denver
DENVER (AP) – The Original HoneyBaked Ham Co. of Georgia Inc. says it has investigated allegations of sexual harassment at a Colorado store and has taken unspecified actions. The federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued the company last week, alleging that Highlands Ranch store general manager James Jackman solicited female employees for sex, fondled them and commented on their bodies. The suit says that after employee Wendy Cabrera complained, she was chastised for making poor personnel hires. She was fired in May 2010. The company released a statement Tuesday saying it doesn’t tolerate sexual harassment. The statement says the company investigated the allegations when they arose last year. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and back pay for Cabrera. No phone listing could be found for Jackman. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press.  All Rights Reserved.)

Man Who Stabbed Elderly Parents In San Francisco Richmond District Identified
CBS San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF)  – A man who allegedly stabbed both of his parents before being shot to death by police on Monday in San Francisco’s Richmond District has been identified by the medical examiner’s office as 44-year-old Peter Woo. Woo’s mother, 73-year-old Nina Woo, succumbed to her injuries a couple of hours after the stabbing, which was reported at about 7:30 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of Funston Avenue, police said. Officers responded and found Peter Woo’s 78-year-old father, Dennis Woo – a prominent member of San Francisco’s Chinese community,  in the doorway with stab wounds to his forearm and hand, according to police. The officers then went upstairs and found Nina Woo bleeding profusely from stab wounds to her upper torso. As they tried to pull her to safety, the officers were confronted by Peter, who was waving a knife in each hand, police said. An officer used a beanbag weapon against him but it was ineffective, so the second officer then shot him wit
In memory of Nikki Vial, Gamma Sigma (UH)
Fort Bend Delta Gamma Alumnae Association
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and I wanted to share a story that is very close to my heart. Let’s be clear, I had never met Nikki (she graduated and left the chapter in the spring before I pledged) – but I feel a strong connection to her, I always have. She wasn’t just a Delta Gamma, she was a Gamma Sigma. Someone from my own chapter, a woman that knew the same sisters I knew.   Domestic violence ended Nikki’s life. It affected our chapter, and my wish is that everyone can learn something from our sister’s death. I’ve always carried Nikki’s memory with me, and I feel that her story is something that we hear about too often in the local news. Please take a minute to read the story that was in the Houston Chronicle about our DG sister, Nikki Vial. And if you know someone that is suffering in silence, be their advocate and be their friend. Help is available, it’s only a phone call away. NIKKI VIAL ARTICLE: Click here
