Founder Mark Arruda had this to tell KillerStartups about the pleasures of becoming a member of the LiveLuvCreate community and the challenges along his startup journey:
We have been in the Facebook app business for a few years now. First with Fbanners.com, which then transformed into FirstCovers.com. On those sites, we offer pre-made content as well as many tools for users to create their own content. After observing millions of users, it became obvious that people love to create their own content. We took that concept of users building their own content and LiveLuvCreate was born.
Although LiveLuvCreate has a nice sound to it, we actually came up with this name for very literal reasons. Live – LiveLuvCreate is a community of people interacting. Luv – Our “Luv” button is the outlet for users to let other users know that they enjoy what is being created. Create – LiveLuvCreate is built behind the idea that anyone can easily create their own inspiring content. In short, Luving and Creating are the two main factors behind LiveLuvCreate.
LiveLuvCreate has transformed dramatically since day one. Since the initial launch, we have learned exactly what our users wanted, and it has been a daily routine to observe and shape the site to their liking. However, the biggest struggle is getting LiveLuvCreate in front of the eyes of all the users that we know would love it.
We enjoy the challenges that our work brings. We like to overcome our obstacles and learn from them so we are more prepared in the future.
Building and maintaining a site like LiveLuvCreate is a 24/7 job. However, we always make time for family, friends, and daily work outs to keep us from going crazy in front of a computer all day. Plus, you’re never out of the office when you have your cellphone!
Our best ideas come when we sit down together and bounce ideas. We’ve learned over the years that we can come up with the best ideas when we jog each others brains and build off of each other’s ideas.
We picture the internet as a whole to be mainly focused on mobile, which is why we have put a lot of focus into building great android/iphone/ipad apps for LiveLuvCreate. We believe as the internet turns mostly mobile that unique content will struggle. We want LiveLuvCreate to be the exception in that.
We’re inspired by the drive to always do better and always want more. We are never satisfied and we believe there is always something to improve.
We are unique in the sense that LiveLuvCreate is created by our users, and who is more unique than each one of them. Our competition only allows their users to view and find content. On LiveLuvCreate our users not only view and find great content, but they also create it. We encourage their creativity!
Never have downtime. We have had several sites reach over 1 million unique visitors per day. That would have never been possible if we were not over-prepared for the potential of what could come.
Watching something that we’ve spent countless hours building from the ground up evolve and take on a life of its own.
It’s hard for most people to see the vision that we have from the start, but the kind words from our dedicated users push us forward to know that we are creating something that they enjoy.
We like to think we are successful. We have been building websites for 7 years that people love. A few of them have reached over 1 million unique visitors per day. However, we believe there is always a higher level of success to reach.
We would like to improve our marketing to reach more people that we know would enjoy LiveLuvCreate. Most of our growth has been through word of mouth. And we love that! However, we believe it’s now time to take it to the next level.
